This was a great place to stay. The location was about a 10 minute walk to a bunch of restaurants and shops, the service was great and the room is nice. It's a kinda old building but still very nice. I enjoyed my couple days here and love the activities and amenities that they offer. This was our 4th Selina and our favorite one.
Nice location & entrance! Good prices as well for the room. For the rest, the worst Selina I’ve stayed at. Squeeky bed, things falling off in the bathroom, very loud and thin walls that didn’t allow us to sleep on a Wednesday night. The room looks nothing like the pictures, sterile and pipes coming from the roof and walls. I was excited for this stay but in all honesty was disappointed.
Plus - The guy who was doing the room cleaning was amiable and helpful. The location has tasty and cheap local breakfast and meal deals. Safe location, within walk distance or a short taxi drive from some cool neighbours. Disliked - They "upgrade" us to a worse room. We booked the studio, and we ended up stuck with a normal double room. When I told them I refused the upgrade because the room was worse and smaller, they told me they were full, and that was the only room available. I booked the studio ages ago, and the hostel was far from full. We had no other choice than to have a small old room with only one desk - useless because the lights next to the desk didn't even work. The restaurant is a tourist trap. The prices are double that of any coffee around the hostel, and the quality is less than half. The menu says coffee and juice were included in the breakfast but the juice was never served. The bed was so uncomfortable that every time my partner moved, I was jumping on the other side of the mattress. In general, the "upgrade" double room was outdated and very noise since it was facing the main street. They close the co-work space randomly for events and parties. One morning, a few girls decided to sing around the fire in the co-work space and thanks to that I had all my clothes smelling. Another morning, someone was blasting reggaeton in a room next to the co-work space, making it impossible to work there. The co-work space is not a plus as you might expect, due to all these random constraints. The staff was a little bit lazy, and no information was provided or a tour during the check-in. I ended up spending a week there and didn't find the shared kitchen to cook a few meals or the yoga studio. Not very stable internet in the room. On party days, it's hard to sleep even when they told me the party should be over by 1 am - it was not.
Honestly I was expecting more from this place and the Selina brand. I booked specially here because I´ve heard good comments in other countries. Unfortunately I had problems with the shower and the reception team did not fix it in the next 48 hours. Aditionally, one of my pillows smell like feet :(.
When we booked our stay here we didn't realize all of the 5-star reviews are about things that have 0 relation to the actual hostel and its rooms. In summary, it was overpriced and terrible. We stayed in a micro room and it was dark, dingey, and loud. We felt like we were trapped in a box and had no privacy because there is 0 soundproofing and you could hear someone talking from the end of the hallway. The shared bathrooms were full of literal sh*t every other day, and the staff would just leave it for days before eventually slapping an "out of order" sign on the door instead of cleaning the bathroom, so the whole floor had only 1 bathroom to share most of the time. Even then, the only usable bathroom was usually out of paper towels or toilet paper (often both). One of the bathrooms didn't even have a shower curtain so there was water everywhere after someone took a shower. On weekends, we were woken up at 7:30am by dogs they brought into the hostel for an event. Random people tried to enter our room while we were sleeping. If you ask for your room to be cleaned, they will not clean it until a weird hour in the evening (6pm??). What's worse, the coworking space (which we wasted more money on) barely had wifi, had frequent power outages, and is used as a hangout space by the people who work their regularly, so it is extremely loud and distracting. There are only 3 call booths in the space and they were not maintained: desks would randomly be removed from them and at one point a light burnt out in one of them and the staff never fixed/replaced it. They would also close it regularly to hold events even though they sell it to you as being available "24/7". It was literally better for to work for free as a guest in the cafe... Lastly, the area around the Selina is grungey and dirty, even if it is technically in walking distance to nicer zones in Chapinero. We ended up leaving Selina several days early because it was so unpleasant and moved to a hotel near Parque 93 instead (**not the Selina**). The experience has been like night and day. The cafe (Howm) is the only good part of Selina Chapinero at all, and I think that's where the good reviews come from.
