I had a wonderful month at JBay coliving! Michael, Karin and Paula are amazing hosts making sure each guest feels at home. Always available to give a ride, bring you to adventures in the wild or a nice brunch in cute towns nearby. The house is breathtaking, big, with a gorgeous ocean view. Same for the rooms. You're minutes away by walk to Supertubes, a worldwide renowned surf spot (for very good surfers, but it's a beautiful spot to watch them with your coffee). You also have free access to the Green room, a coworking space (15 minutes by provided bike from the house) where locals and remote workers have a space to work, chat, and even shower after a surf session (a beginner/intermediate spot is right in front of the coworking, so very ideal to surf some waves between calls). I really recommend staying at Jbay coliving if you like nature and surfing. You'll find a great community and a great vibe. Not very suited for people who like to party hard (as the town is literally dead after 9pm) but very good to unwind, surf and live a slow life. The area is also amazing, you can visit a part of the garden road, Addo elephant park, Schotia game reserve, Tsisikama and a lot more... Loved the free yoga class twice a week!
In one word: incredible. Stay here, you will not regret it!
I was lucky enough to stay at Jbay coliving two times, once in september & october and once in april & may. Both stays were the amazing. The house has everything you need (and more). The best views, spacious bedrooms with private bathrooms, a clean kitchen, lovely hosts that can tell you everything you'd like to know about jbay, surfboard storage, a coworking space in the house and an office where you get to work with the locals in town, free bikes, free communal dinners and the best people.
Absolute recommendation: the sunrise from the sundeck is spectacular.
Oh and the surf is great too.
Special thanks to Michael, Karen, Steffi & Thuba.
I have to say, this stay made our amazing trip even better! The house is amazing, and the people there as well. We would love to come back one day, and you can see that people are actually returning, so that itself says something.
We had some dinners together, which were super nice, but if you feel like not socializing, that is totally okay too. With the accommodation, there is free entrance to the Greenroom cowork (also very nice), so you can change your working location. Only one recommendation to fix are the bikes. Some of them were very hard to bike on but it was kinda a workout before morning surf haha.
There is no load shedding, good coffee, great vibe and beautiful and cozy environment. Definitely recommend!
My boyfriend and I stayed at JBay Coliving for two weeks only and were sad to leave, though with a resolution to come back for a longer time next year.
We really loved every aspect of this Coliving space. First and foremost, the wonderful owner Michael and his sister Karin welcoming us so kindly, and making sure everybody has what they need. Moreover, hhe house is an absolute gem. It is very spacious and offers lots of areas to work from, sit together with other residents or just sit in peace and silence reading a book :)
The views from the balcony are stunning, and sometimes one even sees dolphins in the ocean from there. We especially loved the proximity to the beach, which we visited every morning to start our days, and the big kitchen with loads of space to cook.
The supermarket and some restaurants/coffee spots are within a walkable distance too, so I don't think it's necessary to have a car, though it would be convenient. There are bikes available as well, which we made use of occasionally. Living at the coliving space gave us access to the Green Room coworking, where I went for a couple of days during the week and felt very productive working from.
I like the idea of community events for residents to partake in, such as shared meals. One week, a chef came by to cook dinner for us, which was absolutely tasty. Another week someone from the residents volunteered to cook a meal for everyone. Also, there are activities happening on the weekends, that residents are free to join :)
I think this is the perfect place if you want a chill coliving experience, where you have lots of space to do your thing, but also come together with others if you feel like it. It's not a super crowded house, which I enjoyed especially.
We're really looking forward to come back next year :)
10/10 rating for this epic place. From the moment we walked in, the warmth, aesthetic, and thoughtful layout of this space wowed us. We had a very mixed group spending the holiday together and this space allowed the perfect balance of personal space and communal space for any occasion. I would love to come back and experience it as a co living space as well as I can see how Micheal has created an incredible opportunity for travelers to also experience community with like minded individuals. Do yourself a favor and stay here!
Don't know where to start. A wow experience. Exceeding all expectations.
You will feel at home from the first minute.
The best place for solo and couple travelers who work (remotely). The place to find good-hearted and open-hearted people.
The house is big and has a beautiful interior/design. There are workplaces, a big open kitchen, a fireplace, and balconies with ocean view. A co-working space (green room) is 3 kilometers away. (There are bikes at the house.)
The people managing the house can tell you all about JBay and are keen to show you around.
There is a volunteering (recycling) project for children in town. The house can help you get contact details.
If you like to:
Go surf, drink coffee, go dip, meet people, cook together, work, and play games.
This is your place.
