I loved it. Rooms were great with big bright windows. Lots of common areas. Two pools. Has a bar and a restaurant with only burgers and sides. They have 2 vegan burgers - beetroot and falafel, the beetroot burger was nice
It's a franchise of Pousada De Joventude. Owned privately, therefore, are their own rules. Hardly having a cimpetition, they charge arm and leg for towels (4€) and bar drinks. The closest minimarket is 2.5 km. So, one is at a mercy of the management. The kitchen is very poorly equipped: plates, bowls, cutlery are the leftovers of previous guests. Microwave and the stove are a plus. Breakfast of coffee and some pastry is 10€.
The hostel has cozy and well equiped shared bedrooms, with all the facilities (including lockers) needed. All the staff was nice and lovely to us.
However, the kitchen was small and tiny, without utensils to cook and dishes to eat and no ventilation, which leads to a constant smell of food in that area that has bedrooms nearby.
The bathrooms were in need of a clean service. We also noticed that it doesn't have a designed space to have meals, with just a bar and a living space (both very lovely though).
It has a really cool rooftop also with beautiful views.
Finally, the hostel has a cool environment with lots of surfers that can enjoy the nearby beach and waves.
Pros:
- beautiful view
- clean room and toilet
- outdoor area and terrace are nice
Cons:
- value (€ 30 for a bed in a mixed dorm is way too much for this hostel)
- rooms, kitchen and toilets are quite outdated and unpleasant
- just one toilet per corridor (1 wc, 1 shower, 1 sink… not enough)
- no towels or shower gel provided
- no groceries and other services nearby
- quiet hours not respected by other guests. Maybe we’ve just had bad luck, but our sleep was disrupted several times, even around 2am. This is a definite no-no for a hostel.
We were looking for a place to stay for 1 night. We found that youth hostel and hoped we would get a room there for a reasonable price. 40€ p.person for 1 night for a 2 beds room… very disappointed about the price, as students we could not afford that. Isn’t a youth hostel supposed to be affordable for young people? Sorry but this is not a youth hostel anymore if you have to pay 80€ for a room.
An amazing hostel to stay whether you are surfing for the week or need a place to stay for a trek. I really loved the facilities from the pool, rooftop deck (superb views and sunsets), co-working, restaurant bar, and mini kitchen. It really has everything you need to be comfortable and happy. Parking is also located in the back, which is very nice. And they host many events throughout the week, from live music to rooftop yoga.
But the best part is the staff really goes over and beyond for you! Big shout-outs to Ana (who made me delicious coffee) and Emilia/Javier (who served me amazing bar drinks and food). Milena, Damian, and Daniela at the front desk were also very kind and helpful. And the cleaning ladies were so hardworking and fun to speak with.
Daniela constantly went over and beyond for me, so BIG BIG thank you to her. She helped with laundry, getting a taxi, and overall check in at the hostel. She is a star ⭐️
I really loved my two-week stay and would come back :) Thanks Destination Hostel. Hugs.
