Gato Azul is a truly living, long-standing home! I spent 2 weeks there (far too short!). The place feels warm and homely. Wherever you look, you stumble upon little rays of beauty — in the crooked barrel on the porch, the carved dresser, the checkered tiles. You can relax in the garden, catch the sun with a coffee on the rooftop, stay up late talking with wonderful ppl. And La Orotava itself is one of the most beautiful towns on the island. After a full day of hiking, you can wander through charming streets without the overwhelming tourist noise. Beyond the beauty, there’s also a comfortable workspace, excellent organization, and Sonja, who took care of us, is incredibly helpful. I truly hope to visit Gato Azul again!
I enjoy every moment in this lovely house. Location is great and the house is charming, comfortable and so cozy. Great place to work remotely and meet nice people.
Tricky in winter. Town can be wet and chilly. The windows on my room were ANCIENT: simple wood, single pane glass, with a >1cm open gap =all cold air & street noise comes in. Thermometer read 15°C inside. Common areas also chilly and damp, which hurts the vibe. I'm sure the place is much better from Apr to Nov. This was Jan 2026. Hopefully they fix the windows before next winter.
A beautiful and comfortable home from home. I really enjoyed my stay and my house mates. Sonia the manager gave a friendly welcome. La Orotava is a good base too. A nice town with easy access to the rest of the island.
I had a great stay here in April 2025. The house is huge and is very beautiful. The kitchen and working areas are great, and the rooftop views are spectacular!
Very cool old house with interesting nooks an decor. Loved the roofdeck and the back garden area and the location is great basecamp for bicycling Teide as I was training for a tour of Fuerteventura and being in central Orotava was a treat. What made it really stand out was the friendliness and quality of the people. It was mostly a self-directed co-working experience which worked fine as conversations led to spontaneous adventures like renting motorcycles and riding up and climbing Teide @ 1:30 in the morning! Epic. The house stays cool so I will make sure to bring my own slippers next time. The Sauna is a really nice feature. Was never really crowded while I was there if anything there were fewer people working that I expected but I also worked less that I thought I would as there so much to do on the island. The roofdeck shaded work table was a great feature - pretty much perfect. Realistically, though the hard part was saying bye to the people I met.
We had a wonderful stay at Gato Azul during Christmas time. As our airbnb was cancelled on the day we left home, we were very happy that we found Gato Azul. Ingolf quickly offered us a double room with an en-suite bathroom. The town - La Orotava - is really cute, authentic and a great place for trips around the island. A huge plus was our community manager. Her warm and welcoming attitude really made us feel comfy. She even offered yoga sessions on the rooftop - Amazing. Plus she organized special get togethers throughout the Christmas days. We had luck with the people who were there this week, as we had a great group dynamic and could spend a great time together. Con: - the room and bathroom weren't cleaned during the week, this would have been nice. - Some of the guests were really messy in the kitchen, to an extent where the kitchen was not clean enough to be used by anyone.
The hostel is very very nice. I „had“ to stay here twice because of an unfortunate personal situation, but it was very good. I especially like how cool the building is. It is a very old house that feels very cosy. It has an amazing beautiful garden and a rooftop terrace from where you can see the sea. Also the location is very good as it is right in the centre of La Orotava (at least it feels that way). Mercadona (big supermarket) is only 3 mins away and you also have two gardens next to it. In the hostel you have tables and office chairs on mass. I had a private room both times with a table and chair in my own room. I don’t have just a laptop but a big computer and two monitors. But here I was able to work with it without a problem. Ingolf the owner was very nice to help me setup a internet cable for my computer as I can’t use WiFi. And also the second time I was helped to get a internet cable into my room.
