I stayed at Neighborhood Hill for two weeks, and it was such an amazing experience! The atmosphere was super friendly, and I met so many great people. Pamela was especially amazing very so friendly and welcoming. I spent a lot of time at Nourish Cafe on site, and their smoothie bowls were next level! It was the perfect spot to relax by the pool an soak up the sun with my laptop. The location was super convenient and really safe and just a short distance from the waterfront, plus plenty of restaurants on the main road that I enjoyed checking out. Overall lekker experience, and I'll come back again!
The location of this spot is awesome. It's also an amazing place to meet new people. But it's definitely not a good spot for a longer stay. This place doesn’t look like the pictures. It’s old and dirty. Plus the walls are very thin, so you hear everything from everyone. There are no fridges in the rooms but a big one in the kitchen, but food often gets stolen by other guests. You pay a lot of money for a solo stay, but it feels as a basic hostel experience.
I would not recommend this place and definitely wouldn’t stay here again. First, my room did not have a desk, even though the listing clearly showed that all rooms provide one. When I raised this issue and explained that I needed to work, their response was that I could simply work outside in the sun. That’s completely unrealistic—my laptop battery wouldn’t even last through a single call in direct sunlight. After complaining further, they eventually offered me another room, but it didn’t even have a window. At this price point, that’s completely unacceptable. I can’t believe they even consider offering such a room. Additionally, upon check-in, you’re required to sign an agreement stating that you must lock up all your belongings—essentially releasing them from any responsibility if something goes missing. Yet, none of the rooms provide a safe. On top of that, the entire place is extremely loud, no matter where you go. If you’re looking for a place to work, this is definitely not it. There’s nowhere suitable for meetings, and most guests seem to take calls by the pool, which is far from ideal. If you actually need to focus and be productive, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.
Review of Stay Pros: • Perfect location: close to everything. • Some friendly and helpful staff, available even at night. Cons: 1. Room issues: • Initially, I was put in a tiny room instead of the deluxe room I had booked and paid for. (It took 3 days to resolve this issue, during which I had to contact St. John directly. He was the best person there and finally solved the problem) 2. Booking cancellations: • During my 2-month stay, I was informed at least 3 times that my booking had been canceled. • I had to waste time proving that I had already paid in advance for the entire stay. 3. Theft: • $700 in cash was stolen from my bag on the shelf above the bed. • I reported it to the police but couldn’t provide any evidence (no cameras inside and outside) 4. General discomfort: • Daily noisy parties right in front of the apartment. • Lack of privacy. • Very cold inside. Conclusion: Despite the great location and helpfulness of some staff, the stay was overshadowed by serious issues with security, booking management, and overall comfort .
We stayed in Neighbourgood Hill as part of a tour group. Our stay overall was nice, and the best thing about it was the staff. They were very friendly and accommodating. The only problem that we had was that my partner and I were allocated, potentially the smallest room, that they had. It was also very basic, without a desk, and no closet/ cupboard, and the bathroom also doesn't have a door. The bedroom was in the groundfloor and the windows are high on the wall, for the bathroom. We checked the prices and the price was the same as some of the other rooms, but our room was so small and while it fitted a double bed, that's pretty much everything that could fit in there, except for a small coffee table. Unfortunately, the place was fully booked so we couldn't change rooms. The place in its entirety was really nice though, but the room is not meant for a work trip since it lacked a desk. The internet was fast. They also kept the place clean. The location is safe, and close to a lot of cafes, restaurant, the waterfront and the Hop on-hop off bus. The staff gave us a discount on a different room since we had to leave a day later than our original booking, which was redeeming the small room. The cafe also served good coffee, juices and nice treats. I will stay in this place again, but will make sure it is the larger room!
