A Runner’s Rest: Beyond the Finish Line
We arrived at Neighbourgood Hill in Cape Town for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon. Naturally, the parking limitations in the city caused me some initial anxiety. Much to my relief, we found four parking spaces nearby, just a short walk from the entrance. Since we were an hour early for our booking, I took a chance and headed into reception. Two smiling faces greeted us warmly. They informed us our room was ready, showed us upstairs, and led us to room 32. It was a spacious room, easily accommodating four people, with a queen-sized bed and a bunk. We brought up our luggage and explored the facilities: a communal kitchen, where we met the resident cat, and a swimming pool surrounded by a lush green area with loungers for outdoor relaxation. We quickly headed out to collect our race numbers, then hurried back, keen for an early night and plenty of rest. We took our pre-prepared meals downstairs to the kitchen, where we could comfortably heat, serve, and eat them, with the cat keeping us company. After dinner, we relaxed by the pool with a single beer, mindful of the upcoming race. Then, we retired for the night. This experience was a highlight, especially the bed – oh, that magnificent bed! Please, clear your minds of any inappropriate thoughts. I’ve never slept so deeply and peacefully in any other establishment. The next morning, we lifted the covers to check the mattress brand and even took a photo. Postscript, sealed, almost delivered. Moving on to the bathroom, our natural morning sanctuary. It was splendid, featuring a lovely corner shower, ample hot water, and all the necessary facilities, particularly appreciated knowing a long race lay ahead. Another pleasant surprise awaited us at checkout. A friendly lady at the reception counter accepted our keys and even offered to help with our luggage! Unbelievable! What a memorable experience, truly one of the best in a long time. Thank you, Neighbourgood Hill, for this highlight of our year. You filled our hearts with joy, honestly and sincerely. And I bet you didn’t even know you had an author among your guests – Iwan Ross, that’s me. Swanky. We’ll definitely see you next year!
I absolutely love this place. The front desk lady was really nice to me (she even let me check in early). I was particularly impressed by the public space here: both in-door and out-door spaces are large, definitely good for people want to work or read. And, of course, Steve is lovely. I thought it was a pillow and then realized it was a cutie cat!
I do have some other comments. Like other comments mentioned, the wifi is unstable inside the room. I noticed that there is router outside the room(in the hallway), and maybe thats why inside the room the signal was weak.
Another thing is that people staying on the second floor had a crazy schedule. The floor was not thick and I can hear everything that person did in their room. I got waken up at 4am and that drove me crazy. I would kindly ask the host to tell people stay quiet during nighttime, or get carpet in some areas. They should be aware how noise that could be.
Regardless, I recommend this place as it is so close to the beach. People are nice and kind to me (as a solo traveler I greatly appreciate it).
We had a wonderful stay and experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived, and the rooms were very clean and comfortable.
My sister was graduating during our stay, and on her graduation day the manager and staff surprised her with a beautiful setup. It was such a thoughtful and special gesture that made the occasion even more memorable for our family.

Really friendly and cozy co-living, ideal for longer working-holidays. Felt super at home, great community and support from staff. The chill-garden an extra plus if you like to work outside. Some rooms could use a slight renovation or a mini-touch-up to improve. The cafeteria inside is a great add-on and here again, super friendly. The location is perfect and I felt very secure with the 24-hour security. Overall I felt super happy and will come back next summer. ☀️
We had a lovely stay over 1 night to enjoy the rugby at the CT Stadium and enjoy the local bars and restaurants in the area. Rooms were clean and everything we needed was provided and the hosts we're glad to say if we needed anything, they could help 24/7. For an affordable stay in a great location, look no further. This one is on our saved list.
We had a wonderful stay at this guest house. The place was clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. The staff were warm and welcoming, which made us feel right at home. I would definitely recommend it and would love to stay again.
It did the job - I had a clean space and safe stay with friendly staff. However the shower drain was blocked for my entire stay, I mentioned it at the beginning but had it pool up every time with brown water from the tap. The ceiling was moldy and in general the waterworks were faulty. The toilet made a hissing noise for hours after a flush, and when it settled there was a dripping sound from it.
Otherwise, everything worked fine, internet was patchy, but access to the cape quarter co-working space really saved the day for remote work. The location was convenient and once again shout to the helpful, friendly staff.
I have stayed here already two times. I love the location as its safe to walk around, there is plenty of amenities and other stores and you can even walk to the waterfront. The place has a feeling of B&B and coziness. I had a small problem with the internet as for three days there was no internet in my room, but I could still go to the reception area to get access to the central wifi. Overall a nice cozy place but I would strongly recommend more attention in terms of the cleanliness. The kitchen area was not up to acceptable cleaning standards and plenty of times the plates and cutlery would also be dirty although just taken out of the dishwasher. Also, a couple of times, my room had not been cleaned properly, the dirty mug and plates had not been removed from the room and the toilet had not been cleaned properly. The stuff was super helpful to allow me to have a later check out as my flight was late in the afternoon on the day. Overall good value for the money paid, but def improvement in the cleanliness required.
