My friend booked this place, but I strongly recommend avoiding it. The property is dirty and unsanitary, and it looks nothing like the photos. Food is constantly being stolen from the shared kitchen, and the pool is filthy not usable at all. During the day, it’s completely taken over by digital nomads working on their laptops, making it impossible to enjoy
Avoid this place at all costs. I don't even have the energy to explain how horrible it is they already took it from me. And be careful most of the good reviews you see are either from staff members or from people who only stayed one night and probably got one of the two decent rooms they have. UPDATE : Just to clarify a few things after seeing their reply under my review: We spent months begging them to move us to another property. It didn’t happen out of kindness or good service – it happened because we insisted again and again. And yes, we stayed until our check-out date – because they refused to refund us. That’s the only reason. Don’t be fooled by how they spin the story to make themselves look good. I’ve filed a formal complaint to the autorities.
So disappointing. This was my first time staying at this Neighbourhood location, and I thought because the Romney location was a nice stay this would be up to the same standard but I quickly realised that the same kind of hospitality does not stretch across to this Neighbourgood location. We booked a standard room and the pictures on the website looked nothing like the room we got. From former low reviews, this seems to be an issue for several people. Why would you have pictures advertising a certain room at a certain price point and then deliver less? That just tells me that almost none of the room options look like the pictures? Nevermind that the room looked half the size, I think I at least expected the bathroom to have a door. Absolutely false advertising I did not get the experience I thought I paid for. However, I do think the worst part was the mold on the roof of the shower and in between the tiles. How disgusting. The man at the front desk was friendly but unable to properly communicate how to find my room and a contracter on site eventually helped me navigate the grounds. Friendly staff however does not make up for what I felt was false advertising and an unhygienic space.
I had stayed at the Neighbourhood Hill for one night and the staff were amazing! The room looked like the picture, it was pretty basic but everything worked. It was so sweet to have a handwritten note, cookie and a little bag on the bed as I arrived. I actually used the bag as I toured around the city! However, what makes me want to go back is the staff, and ofcourse the cafe! From the moment I checked in, the staff were so friendly and helpful. Ash assisted in carrying my luggage to my room and Pam made check in so easy! Since my flight was later, Pam had kept my luggage in reception safely so I could tour the city in my final hours there. Absolutely loved the vibe of the people and will definitely go back.
I recently stayed here for over 10 days, and unfortunately, it was an experience that I will never forget for all the wrong reasons. From the moment we arrived, the lack of hospitality was evident. There was no warm welcome – just a cold and dismissive check-in. The receptionist, a white girl, handed us the keys with barely any acknowledgment and no explanation about the property or the room. We didn’t even receive a proper room tour. It was clear that the level of service here was subpar right from the start. The real disaster began when we entered the room. We were given Room 20, which was far from what we had paid for. This room had no window, no air conditioning, and a broken fan. It was uncomfortable, claustrophobic, and absolutely not what was advertised on their website. When we raised the issue with the manager, Pamela, she told us that the pictures on the website were misleading and should not be trusted. This left us in disbelief – how were we supposed to know that? We asked to be moved to a different room, but Pamela told us that there were no available rooms due to the hotel being fully booked. We then requested to see the room we originally booked to ensure it matched the pictures and description online. After more lies and confusion, Pamela finally admitted that the rooms are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. This means that regardless of what you’ve booked, if someone else checks in before you, they will receive the room you reserved. This policy is both unfair and frustrating, especially when you’ve already paid for a specific room. After over two hours of arguing and pleading, we reluctantly accepted our fate and stayed in Room 20. We requested a working fan, but were given another broken one. We had to fix it ourselves. As a claustrophobic person, I couldn’t bear to stay in that room any longer. I asked to be moved again, but was told no. Eventually, after more pleading, I was informed of when the people staying in the room I originally booked would be checking out on Monday of next week ,I begged them to let me switch rooms, and finally, after more arguing, they agreed. I also feel compelled to address the unacceptable behavior of the receptionist (the white girl ) .Over the course of our stay, we observed her interacting with other guests in a friendly and polite manner, but she completely ignored us. I was deeply hurt by the way she treated us, and as a person of color, it was clear to me that her behavior was racially motivated. It was upsetting to see someone so young carry such a prejudiced attitude in a country surrounded by diversity. It's heartbreaking to see this level of discrimination, especially in a place where people should feel welcome and respected. I sincerely hope she reflects on her actions and changes her mindset. Concerning our departure , we asked for a late checkout as our flight was at 11.35 P.M. They ignored us for this request , we spent the whole day waiting for the time of our flight outside in the courtyard . You could have rest assured that we would have paid you for the late checkout out !!! In conclusion, my experience here was nothing short of awful. From the lack of hospitality, to the misleading room assignments, to the discriminatory treatment I received, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone. There are plenty of other places where you can expect better service and respect for your hard-earned money.
I stayed at Neighborhood Hill for two weeks, and it was such an amazing experience! The atmosphere was super friendly, and I met so many great people. Pamela was especially amazing very so friendly and welcoming. I spent a lot of time at Nourish Cafe on site, and their smoothie bowls were next level! It was the perfect spot to relax by the pool an soak up the sun with my laptop. The location was super convenient and really safe and just a short distance from the waterfront, plus plenty of restaurants on the main road that I enjoyed checking out. Overall lekker experience, and I'll come back again!
The location of this spot is awesome. It's also an amazing place to meet new people. But it's definitely not a good spot for a longer stay. This place doesn’t look like the pictures. It’s old and dirty. Plus the walls are very thin, so you hear everything from everyone. There are no fridges in the rooms but a big one in the kitchen, but food often gets stolen by other guests. You pay a lot of money for a solo stay, but it feels as a basic hostel experience.
