We recently booked accommodation at Neighbourgood Newlands for a group of 115 guests, and the experience was exceptional from start to finish. From our very first enquiry, the communication was outstanding. The team was responsive, professional, and incredibly helpful throughout the booking process, making the organisation of such a large group effortless. From the moment we arrived until check-out, everything was handled seamlessly. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained. We particularly appreciated the soft, fresh white towels and the consistently hot water—small details that made a big difference after a busy day of touring. The staff deserve special recognition for their warm hospitality, friendliness, and willingness to assist. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and they showed remarkable patience and professionalism while looking after our large group. We also thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast buffet at The Good Neighbour Café & Bakery. André and his team prepared a delicious and varied breakfast each morning, providing an excellent start to the day. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at Neighbourgood Newlands for making our stay so enjoyable. We highly recommend this property to both individual travellers and groups and look forward to staying with you again in the future. Anita, Zookini Tours

I stayed at the Neighbourgood Hotel and initially had a very positive experience with the reception staff, who were welcoming and made me feel at home on arrival. Unfortunately, my experience with the cafe and breakfast service was disappointing and ultimately led me to shorten my stay. Despite clearly communicating that I do not eat spicy food, I was still served chicken curry. At breakfast, I was offered sourdough bread, which I also do not eat, and it was quite oily. When I asked for an alternative, I was told that this was the only bread available. I also do not drink orange juice and when I asked for another option, I was told it was only available for paying clients, which felt dismissive as I was also a paying guest. The situation escalated when I tried to arrange a pre-packed meal for a late arrival. I was informed the only available options were burgers and pizzas, which also did not suit my dietary needs. When I went in person to try resolve the issue, the interaction with management was unhelpful and felt dismissive, which left me quite uncomfortable. Overall, while the hotel itself has great potential and the reception experience was excellent, the lack of flexibility and customer care in the food service significantly impacted my stay. I hope management can improve communication and accommodate dietary requirements better in the future, as this would make a big difference to the guest experience. But I will never book myself again at this place, especially with such bad attitude 😒 😤

Exceptional recovery and unmatched hospitality! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had a less-than-pleasant stay at Neighbourgood Newlands on May 30th and logged a complaint. However, as a regular visitor, I knew this wasn't their usual standard, so I didn't give up on them. I booked another stay on June 13th, and they completely turned things around. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by the team. They went above and beyond by leaving a sweet note and a thoughtful gift in my room to make up for the previous experience. The staff was absolutely wonderful, and my room was incredibly comfortable. They handled my initial feedback with true professionalism and care. I will definitely continue visiting!

I arranged for an early check in (13:00) telephonically, which the hotel said was fine. I got there at 13:15 and the room was'nt ready. I was then told 13:45. At 13:50, they told me that they still needed another 10 minutes. Ordinarily I would not have minded waiting a bit longer, but I had pre-arranged the check in as I had a 14:30 meeting to get to. I was late for the meeting as a result of my delay at the hotel check in process. It was a bit frustrating having to wait. The staff were extremely friendly at the hotel and the resaturant. Breakfast was great. Really well prepared and freshly baked sourdough! Excellent. Budget an extra 10/15 minutes for Brekkie though.. they do work at Cape Town speed.

I’m currently staying at Neighbourgood Newlands and wanted to share an honest, experience‑based review, especially in the context of what a 4‑Star graded hotel is expected to offer in South Africa. Several aspects of the stay fall noticeably short of typical 4‑Star standards. On Sunday after 3pm, the restaurant was closed off using makeshift barriers made from chairs and benches, which felt out of place for a hotel in this category. Room service is only available between 3pm and 8pm, which is extremely limited for a 4‑Star property. We requested a room change due to an environmental issue, but our luggage was not moved for us — I had to fetch and move everything myself. Throughout the process, it often felt as though we were an inconvenience to the staff rather than guests. The room itself is very compact, and the bathroom has almost no space to place toiletries except on the basin. The shower wets the entire bathroom floor, which creates a slipping hazard. Overall, the room feels more like a modern university dormitory than a 4‑Star hotel room. There are also no guest‑centric smoking facilities - the smoking area itself is very neglected. Breakfast was included in our booking, yet both the front desk and the restaurant manager had to double‑check this before allowing us into the breakfast area, which made the experience feel awkward and unnecessarily procedural. Neighbourgood Newlands has potential, but based on our stay so far, the service, facilities, and overall guest experience do not align with what one would reasonably expect from a 4‑Star graded hotel.

I only stayed here for one night, but that was enough to know I won’t ever be back. The staff were friendly, but the hotel clearly wasn’t prepared for guests. We arrived a bit early and were happy to wait for check-in, but when check-in time came we were told there was no clean bedding and we’d have to wait even longer. We ended up checking in much later than expected. What’s ironic is that while they weren’t ready to receive guests, they’ve had no problem sending multiple emails afterwards asking for a review. So here it is: they may not be ready for your stay, but they’ll definitely be ready to spam your inbox asking how it was.

This was the perfect hotel for our group stay with students. The rooms were comfortable, the cafe was wonderful with great food and service, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly- just just a great time. The only downside was the temperature of water in the shower was either very hot or very cold and towels were not replaced- but for the rest- we really loved it.

I booked this initially for its proximity to Newlands cricket stadium. It was perfect for that and meant I didn’t have to worry about walking or taxis after the T20 final. However this hotel has so much more. The staff are awesome - I think collectively the best I’ve ever witnessed. They can’t do enough for you - but equally know when to leave you alone. There is a great cafe restaurant on site - the chicken coconut curry is fantastic. All the meals I had were lovely and all competitively priced. It is 2 mins walk to Pick n Pay and 5 mins to Bootlegger, Tiger’s Milk, Mozambik and other cafes. The rooms are big, comfy bed, useful fridge, good aircon - and the walls are not thin so very peaceful. Guest laundry was useful. Internet was excellent speed and never dropped out. Lots of space to sit and work or research trips or just relax. I cannot fault this place - I’ll definitely be returning ASAP and whenever I need to go to Newlands cricket. Thanks everyone!!
