Stayed for 1 night. Family room was good with a hanging mezzanine level bed. Plenty of space to move about. Lovely staff, shout out to the very nice French lady in Canvas. Kids used the hot tubs in the morning.
Only downside was the thump of dance music until 4am. To be expected as it was Friday night, but didn’t think it would be that noticeable on the 4th floor.
One of the highlights of my stay at Amsterdam. The staff here are so lovely. I locked myself out immediately after checking in, and they kindly gave me an extra swipe pass without charging me extra.
The hotel has pretty much everything you would need, like free storage for luggage, a cafe downstairs, and a restaurant upstairs. Because of this, the rooms don’t have fridges. There’s also spaces to work on the ground floor.
I liked how my room had so many options for lighting and had PowerPoints, including for usbs right next to the bed.
The highlight was the hot tubs and sauna on the rooftop. There was usually always a tub free and despite being a large hotel, it was never crowded.
It was really nice staying somewhere so convenient, well equipped and with all-round good vibes.
The location is also very convenient, Wibautstraat station is right outside, and there’s good tram connections to everywhere else if you don’t want to walk or cycle. If you’re hungry at 3am, there’s also good late night eats nearby.
This spot was better than I thought it would be! 😊 My room was a bit small, but it was really clean and cozy. Plus, the hallway had such a great view, which was a nice surprise. 🌆 I'd definitely consider staying here again. 👍
Amazing hotel. We stayed friday-Monday. Very quirky and different to hotels we’ve stayed in previously. Would highly recommend here. It’s close to a local shop, the station & tram lines. After a long day of walking around the best feeling was getting into such a comfortable bed. Although the rooms are small they were perfect for a couple, the shower was 100% and very good with the detail of the privacy, it was very clean. We didn’t have any drinks or food here so can’t comment on this.
I loved this place!
The reason I booked here is; hot tubs and optional yoga, but the cool decor, hip vibe, and friendly helpful staff made it one of my best lodging experiences.
Note the hot tubs weren't as hot as I would have liked, and at a busy time you may not be able to fit into one. The sauna was amazing.
Breakfast and lunch at canvas very good.
Monday night yoga was four stars.
The reason that I'm here is because my visa to India had a problem and I was forced to stay in Amsterdam until it was resolved. When I needed to print my fixed visa off my tablet the woman at the front desk was extremely helpful in navigating how to get the PDF off my tablet to her printer. For me this kind of stuff can be confusing but she was more knowledgeable than me, and enjoyed figuring it out. If management is reading this the 30ish tallish pretty brunette with a bob deserves an increase in pay, or at least a hug and confetti.
You don't need to be an old hipster to fit right in here.
I really like your hotel.
Our stay at Volkshotel in Amsterdam was very pleasant. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, and the service was truly outstanding. The price includes access to the saunas and hot tubs, which was a big bonus and made the experience even better. The hotel is very clean, modern, and offers plenty of activities. We were also pleasantly surprised to receive a better room than the one we originally booked. Overall, a great hotel and highly recommended!
pls open one in every city!!!!!! had the best few days here, booked an XS double room and they upgraded us when we arrived to a medium which was so nice and unexpected. Beds super comfy, rooftop hot tubs and saunas were a dream (even in January), location perfect for exploring de Pijp and oost. 2 min walk from the metro and a supermarket right next door. also the coffee is amazing. we will be back!!!!
Volkshotel was an interesting experience. The hotel is very eccentric and artsy—especially the lobby, which is always bustling with people. However, the actual rooms could use more attention when it comes to cleanliness.
The toilet lid in my room was dirty upon arrival. In both my loft and my mom’s regular room, the toilet and shower were in separate spaces. In the loft suite specifically, the toilet is on one floor while the shower is on the floor above, which isn’t the most convenient setup.
Another thing to note: if you sleep in and wake up after 11 AM, your room won’t be cleaned until the following day. This wasn’t mentioned at check-in, and the front desk staff wouldn’t make any exceptions—they were a bit rude about it, too.
Breakfast is not included, and while they do offer a buffet for €16 per person, it’s definitely not worth it. You’re better off grabbing coffee and pastries from the shops nearby.
Also, the basement club they have called Doka has terrible reviews about bouncers and security being physically aggressive to guests (including women). Because of all the heinous reviews, we were too nervous to even check it out. So proceed with caution!!
Overall, I appreciated the creativity and artistic vibe of the hotel, but there are definitely some areas that need improvement.
