Volkshotel was an interesting experience. The hotel is very eccentric and artsy—especially the lobby, which is always bustling with people. However, the actual rooms could use more attention when it comes to cleanliness.
The toilet lid in my room was dirty upon arrival. In both my loft and my mom’s regular room, the toilet and shower were in separate spaces. In the loft suite specifically, the toilet is on one floor while the shower is on the floor above, which isn’t the most convenient setup.
Another thing to note: if you sleep in and wake up after 11 AM, your room won’t be cleaned until the following day. This wasn’t mentioned at check-in, and the front desk staff wouldn’t make any exceptions—they were a bit rude about it, too.
Breakfast is not included, and while they do offer a buffet for €16 per person, it’s definitely not worth it. You’re better off grabbing coffee and pastries from the shops nearby.
Also, the basement club they have called Doka has terrible reviews about bouncers and security being physically aggressive to guests (including women). Because of all the heinous reviews, we were too nervous to even check it out. So proceed with caution!!
Overall, I appreciated the creativity and artistic vibe of the hotel, but there are definitely some areas that need improvement.
Perfect blend of hostel and hotel as it includes:
-Hot tubs and a sauna on the roof.
-Restaurant/bar on the top floor with great views.
-A cafe/bar on ground level along with a public working space.
-An events venue/disco in the basement.
Lots of good people, fun energy and interesting activities all around to keep a vibrant atmosphere. Friendly reception was accommodating to all our needs and questions.
We stayed us a family with our young kids. Something for everyone. Highly recommended.
I had an absolutely wonderful 4-night stay at Volkshotel while in Amsterdam for a conference last month. The location is perfect - easy to get around, with a metro stop very close by - and the large co-working space made it ideal for getting work done. My room was comfortable and stylish, breakfast was great (with amazing views!), and every staff member I met was warm and welcoming.
The variety of social and relaxation spaces really sets this hotel apart. The sauna and rooftop hot tubs were a fantastic bonus, and I wish I’d had time to try the massage - next time for sure.
I’ve been talking about this stay so much that my friends and colleagues are teasing me for it… but it really was that good. I’ll definitely be back, and I’d happily stay here every time I visit Amsterdam.
This is a very very good hotel in every way and we will be staying here every time.
The staff are incredibly friendly and clearly love the place they work. The hotel has a fantastic vibe and has a DJ/music down on the ground floor with a cafe and work spaces. The 7th floor has a sky lounge bar and restaurant with a DJ which is also another great place to chill.
The hotel rooms themselves are great, big bed and great bathroom and shower. There is also good AC and heating, large windows for good sunlight and views too.
The location is a walk away to everything and there is a metro entrance 2 minutes down the road.
10/10 hotel.
We’ve had a lovely three night stay at the Volkshotel. The hotel is quirky and has great vibes. The rooftop style restaurant and bar we didn’t go up until the last night, but we wished we had gone up sooner as the atmosphere was great! The staff are really friendly and just the over service is better than expected. There was a jazz night on arrival and other bits on other nights. We were out most of the time but even if you want to go back and chill at the hotel, there’s things to do
We stayed here as a family for a short break in Amsterdam. The hotel has funky interior and has lots of things going on (e.g. live music and a vinyl sale during our stay). The rooms are functional and quirky, which we liked. There is access to hot tubs and sauna on the roof. The metro is a short walk, so good access to everything you might want to visit.
A wonderful four-night stay was slightly marred on my final day. A member of staff insisted I stop using my iPad in the 'no laptop' area, despite my need for only 15 minutes to plan my onward journey. I had specifically chosen not to use my laptop to adhere to the spirit of the rule, so the rigid enforcement felt unnecessarily discourteous. A little flexibility would have been appreciated, come on now . But overall a banging time 👍
The room was not clean at all when I checked in. There was a lot of hair on the bed. The bedding was a little dirty, so I asked for new sheets. They gave me two new sheets, but I had to change them myself. When I took off the old ones, there were yellow stains on the mattress cover (the cover on the mattress) and lots and lots of hair. Short and long hair.
When I asked again if they had a new room, I got one, but it was just as dirty. There was even a (dirty) cleaning cloth on the table.
I asked for more bedding to cover everything on the bed so that I could at least sleep that night. The next day, I canceled the remaining nights and checked out.
For this price, I expect a clean bed!
The room in General is industry look with Furniture and bed made from screen printing plates. The vibe in the Hotel is nice but the rooms are not valid for a Hotel.
