I came to this coworking space through a recommendation. I was told it’s a great place for community and meeting people, so I decided to try it out. I signed up for a two-week membership first, just to see how it feels before committing long term.
The space itself is really nicely designed. It’s clean, well organized, and the chairs are comfortable. You can tell that care was put into the interior. However, it’s only one open space. There’s no separate focus zone or a more relaxed area, so everything happens in the same room.
It’s also very cold inside because the air conditioning is constantly on. I was sitting next to a friend and we were quietly typing and occasionally whispering, since the rules say to speak quietly. However, a staff member came over and asked us not to talk at all, even though the posted rules clearly say “talk quietly,” not “no talking.”
The atmosphere feels quite strict and not very warm. On the tables there are small cards that say something like “Less talk, more work,” which kind of sets the tone. There’s not much natural opportunity for interaction.
I wanted to join the pizza night, but I was told it’s only for people with a monthly membership. That honestly didn’t make much sense to me, especially when the place promotes itself as community-oriented. Some days a guy suddenly shouts “Tea time!” and everyone is expected to socialize on the spot. It feels a bit forced, and I didn’t enjoy that dynamic either.
Overall, it’s an okay place if you just want to come in, work quietly, and go home. But if you’re looking for a relaxed, friendly community vibe, I personally didn’t experience that, especially since some social events are limited to monthly members only. I left feeling a bit disappointed with the atmosphere.
The staff, the coliving rules, and the community together create a very special environment that feels psychologically comfortable and naturally encourages communication between residents. I met many interesting people here, and it is unlikely that I would have had the chance to connect with such individuals outside of the coliving setting. Living here genuinely expanded my social and personal opportunities 🤝
Room for improvement:
1) The coworking area is quite compact, so when someone nearby is sneezing or coughing, it can feel uncomfortable. It might be helpful to introduce a guideline encouraging residents who feel unwell to wear masks, and perhaps provide free masks on-site.
2) For long-term residents, it would be nice to have small additional conveniences such as helmet rental for motorcycles, extra hangers for wardrobes, and storage organizers for personal belongings.
Overall, it was a positive experience, I'm grateful for the time spent here 🫶
P.S. I have nothing much to add beyond what has already been mentioned in other reviews, but I would encourage readers to approach them thoughtfully and distinguish between objective points and personal perceptions.
Top tier exprience
One of the best colivings for digital nomads if not the best.
The coworking is very comfortable, staff are always helpfull and friendly. With a nap room, phone booths, small sauna, icebath and more to get the best out of you
Close enough to the old city and still far from the noise.
Some people might complain about the price but it really brings in quality interesting personas, besides the activities and the stuff mentioned above
I stayed here for a month for about $1500 for a premium room, to me this Coliving was just not worth it. Go to the the Social Club in Chiang Mai as it’s much better.
Pros:
-The people coming through are friendly and pretty awesome over all.
-Workspace is great
Cons:
-No difference between a standard and premium room except a slightly bigger bed. there is no extra furniture and you are paying literally for empty space
-Ants if you are on the first floor
-The staff are lazy, my battery was low on my key code door and they never fixed it until I got locked out. Same problem with the main gate, I was locked out on new years and had to hop a fence.
-Badly designed, the TV and gathering space was in front of people’s rooms. So you can never make too much noise and as a result there is never people to hang out with after dinner to play games or chill.
-So far from everything, you need a motorbike to do anything.
-Greedy, if you book a higher tier room, even if they have lower cost ones they won’t tell you. They want to renew the expensive ones they can’t push out (they could just make those room better so people buy it naturally but they won’t)
-Staff sit behind the desk all day or in the cafe and never interacts with the people staying there. But at the same time, any request takes 4-6 hours get back to you.
The people staying are great but that’s every Coliving. If you want the greediness of a corporate run Coliving without any of the professionalism, stay here.
Edit: Owner tried to character assassinate me because I gave a 2 star honest review, pretty sad response. Characteristic of the lack of professionalism I mentioned. Downgraded to one star.
I stayed here for three months, and overall it was a very meaningful experience for me.
During my first month, I rented a scooter, but from the second month onward, I didn’t feel the need to. There are many local markets, great cafés, and restaurants nearby, all within walking distance, so there’s no need to travel far for daily life. Having a large supermarket like Rimping close by is also a big plus. The kitchen facilities are excellent, so I cooked almost every day.
One honest downside is that it took me some time to fully adjust to the coliving environment. Because of that, I feel a bit sad that I couldn’t take advantage of the community activities as much as I could have.
As with any human interaction, it can be difficult for both guests and staff to feel close right away, especially at the beginning. However, as time passed, I realized how kind, warm, and genuinely lovely the staff are. JJ, Pae, and Pai became incredibly friendly, supportive, and honestly very cute in their own way. I always felt welcomed and cared for.
Looking back, these three months were one of the most intensive periods of personal growth I’ve experienced, living together with people from many different backgrounds. I truly learned a lot, and I would love to come back again.
I stayed at Alt Ping River for three months, and it’s been one of the best community experiences I’ve had as a digital nomad.
What makes Alt truly special is the people you meet. You naturally connect with freelancers, creators, business owners, and remote workers, professions you don’t usually get to work alongside. Being able to co-work, share ideas, and inspire each other in this environment is a rare and fascinating experience.
You can really feel that this space was created by someone who understands the digital nomad lifestyle. The team is always open and responsive, and the staff, and also become my friends, Pae, Pai, JJ, John, Cake, Mod and all other staffs are incredibly kind and supportive, making the space feel like home.
This was my second stay at Alt, and I’ll definitely be back again very soon!🙏❤️
Stayed here in November and can really recommend the place. It's very clean, being cleaned every day. Lots of great people to meet since you're living in the co-working. The co-working area is also great, good chairs, you can sit all day in them, good tables, good air conditioning, so can be a great place to work all day if you need to. Lots of events happenning too, every week and probably almost every day. Super thankful to staff members - JJ, Pai, and Pae. Super helpful with everything and super friendly. Perfect workation in Alt Pingriver, thank you!
Normally, what you are looking for as a coliving & coworkingn space is a place clean, organized and well-structured for comfort and productivity, especially if you are working while travelling or being in digital nomad lifestyle.
In alt, you will have all these as features which makes this place a great option while you want to enjoy beauty of Chiang Mai.
But what makes alt extraordinary is the sense of community you feel from the first day you get there. You see people smiling and greeting you with a smile and open heart.
You see staff which see you beyond being a customer, but as a friend. Anytime I had to deal with an issue, Pae, Pai and JJ were there to do their best to help.
The only challenge I have seen with this place is that it can get addictive, and difficult to say farewell to all those sweet memories you make in this magical place.
Alt is the bridge which connected the heart of me and all those friends I made in this place, a lovely home which act like a home for everyone, no matter who they are and where they are from.
