Fairly "new" building (renovation of an old industrial building?), with digital check-in and check-out, modernly equipped apartment (kitchenette, bathroom, living room). Nice view of Grenoble and the surrounding area. Shuttle service from the hotel location to the riverbank with a battery-powered vehicle.
Despite the apartment being large enough, the architects failed to plan a "bedroom". They squeezed a small bed (which could easily have been 20 cm wider) between three walls, so the couple has to "climb" over each other - a poor solution.
The public access road to the hotel is a disaster, and it is also difficult to find a parking space in the evening.
Pretty good all and all. Clean and spacious rooms, everything you need to live comfortably for a few days or longer.
The wifi didn’t work well in the rooms.
The air conditioning worked well in summer although we have stayed previously and in the shoulder seasons they do not turn on the air conditioning so beware of heatwaves in April or May - It may be an unpleasant stay for you.
The duvets were heavy winter duvets and far too hot. Even with the room at 18 degrees it was too hot!
Noise from corridors and upstairs screeching of chairs.
Our recent stay at Babel was a mix of positives and a few inconveniences that are worth noting for future guests.
Pre-arrival Communication:
The communication prior to check-in was quite frustrating. Despite calling multiple times to confirm our booking, our calls went unanswered and were redirected to voicemail. Emails also went unanswered for a couple of days, and we only received the booking confirmation on the day of arrival. This caused unnecessary uncertainty, and it’s an area the hotel could significantly improve.
Arrival & Check-in:
Once we arrived, the experience improved. The lady at the reception was very welcoming and made check-in smooth. Getting to the hotel by car—even with a large SUV—was relatively easy, which was a pleasant surprise given the narrow winding roads. However, the walk up from street level can be challenging if you’re not particularly fit, so something to keep in mind.
Transport & Accessibility:
The hotel does provide an electric cart for transfers between the street and reception, but the schedule isn’t clearly communicated. It would be helpful if the timings were better publicized to guests in advance.
The Room:
Our room was spacious and well-maintained, featuring a comfortable small double bed, a separate sitting area, and a functional kitchen. The bathroom was compact but clean, with a shower cubicle, WC, and single basin. Security was a plus—access to each floor is restricted by key card, ensuring only guests with rooms on a particular floor can enter.
View & Amenities:
Unfortunately, our room had a mountain-facing view, which wasn’t particularly impressive. Other rooms with city views seemed to offer a much better experience in that regard. On a brighter note, the restaurant boasts a fantastic view, and the complimentary drinks voucher was a thoughtful gesture.
Food & Dining:
One major downside was the breakfast. It’s not possible to include it during the booking process online, and the offering is expensive and limited to a continental selection, which we didn’t find to be good value for money.
Parking:
Car parking is nearby but not owned by the hotel, so it lacks security. We were advised not to leave anything visible in the car, which was a bit unsettling.
Overall:
Babel offers a clean, secure, and stylish stay with some unique strengths—like the view from the restaurant and room layout—but needs improvement in communication, guest transport, and food options. With a few changes, it could be an excellent place to stay.
Rating: 3.5/5
I had a wonderful 5-month stay in this apartment! The communication with the apartment managers was smooth and effortless, making the whole process seamless from start to finish. The location is unbeatable, just a short distance from the city center, and it offers an amazing view. The neighborhood is very safe, which was a huge plus.
The apartment itself was new, clean, and well-maintained, providing all the comfort I needed during my stay. Additionally, the convenience of easily accessing the building by public bus or private shuttle made commuting a breeze.
The room was quite spacious and overall clean (although the bedsheets might need a change and better cleaning). The location is truly stunning and the view is magnificent. I loved how quiet and peaceful and surrounded by nature the place is.
The breakfast was very limited though - for 14 euro per person you get some bread, jam, butter and a few slices of cheese or ham. Zero vegan options. 🫠
Very nice apartment,
Very warm and responsive staff,
A little out of the way location, but that's what offers such an exceptional setting to this place.
Second time I've come here, in the same year, and it's even better than the last time!
Bonus: the rooftop bar-restaurant offering a breathtaking view of the city and the surrounding mountains
I recommend + +
Price performance is 👍
The room was clean 👍
Breakfast was ready 🆗
