It has been some time since I have stayed here, but my experience was so awful that I still feel compelled to say something. Hopefully, things have changed since then. There was a management change when I moved in, so that perhaps contributed to my experience.
When I saw the room after a long day of flying to SF, I was shocked. It was extremely dirty (black stuff all over the sink, unclean mattress, not fully furnished as advertised (no bed sheets - I had to run out that day to buy them in a hurry), and hair in the microwave. It was clear that on top of the room not being cleaned, no one even bothered to look into the room at all before I moved in - not even a surface level sweep!
It was also much smaller than the room that was shown to me when I had a virtual tour. I had specifically asked if a desk and chair can fit in the room since I need that for work - I was told yes, but the space ended up being so small I could not.
When I complained about the room's lack of cleanliness and additional misleading information, management agreed and said it was unacceptable and moved me to another room. While the new room was better, it was still obviously not cleaned (found items in one of the cabinets left from the previous tenant), and there was a peculiar, almost sickly sweet scent. The mattress was also very unclean as well; it smelled like garbage. There was still not enough space to fit a desk and a chair.
I ended up sending a message that I wanted to move out and explained why and requested my deposit back - Someone ended up calling me trying to convince me to stay, saying they will do a deep cleaning of the room (which should have happened already), but I felt deeply uncomfortable with my experience so far, the much smaller room than communicated, and a general lack of cleanliness. Also, the showers nearby often did not have hot or even warm water. I saw roaches in the kitchen behind the microwave once.
I ended up moving out early. I spoke to two other tenants at the time, and they were also not happy. The building managers were kind enough, but the actual owners of the building (neighbourgood) tried to charge me more on top of losing my deposit, but I told them absolutely not given my experience, and they left me alone.
I strongly suspect some reviews here are fake. Never have I ever seen someone describe this location, near 16th St. Mission BART, as a "beautiful" or "fantastic" location. People wince when I tell them where I used to live.
Well maintained property
Great place to stay if you are in SF. Close to a lot of great restaurants and nightlife as well as public transit. The kitchen and outdoor space are also great to have especially when staying for longer term.
