🏨 has short staysFine for a workation, but significant turnover works against coliving principles for a cohesive community; a longer minimum stay supports better interactions. What is coliving?
Egypt’s first community designed for entrepreneurs, digital nomads, remote workers, and those aspiring to become one. Guests experience an inspiring living and working space while immersing in Egyptian culture and local life.
The redNERD Villa was created by travellers for travellers, shaped by global volunteers and fuelled by the motto lets create together. The villa offers a pool area, coworking space, large community kitchen, rooftop views, and shared events that build real connections. It’s more than just a place to stay. It’s a space where you can grow personally and professionally, surrounded by a like-minded community.

Coliving Hurghada "redNERD" was a truly special experience that I’d like to share here. I spent a total of three weeks in the villa and enjoyed every moment of it. As is often the case in life, it’s not just the places that stay in your memory, but above all the people you meet along the way.
About the house:
The coliving space accommodates around ten residents. The rooms are beautifully decorated, well equipped, and thanks to the air conditioning, there’s no need to worry about the outside temperatures. There are both private and shared bathrooms. The kitchen and co-working area are well equipped, and the living room is perfect for relaxing. In addition, there are many cozy spots to sit and unwind around the house and on the rooftop terrace.
The international residents include both employed remote workers, freelancers, and entrepreneurs. Thanks to the wide range of activities offered, there are plenty of opportunities to get to know your housemates. Activities range from diving and snorkeling trips to desert excursions and communal dinners in the villa or out in the city. Hurghada has so much to offer—it never gets boring.
Through many conversations and excursions with the founder Marcel and his guests, I was able to gain valuable insights into life in Hurghada, the local culture, and the best places in town. I also learned a lot about the beginnings of the coliving project and could feel that this place is more than just somewhere to sleep and work. It is a home for anyone who wants to be part of a vibrant and diverse community.
I found RedNerd by chance, came for a week, but ended up staying for a month and would stay even longer if I wouldn’t have to be somewhere.
It has everything for work and travel experience - great WiFi, that works at any level of the villa, inside and outside, comfortable coworking space with monitors, full stocked kitchen, if you don’t want to cook - there is a delivery that gets groceries and food right to the door, pool was a nice addition to experience that always cold enough to cool off on a hot day.
Marcel, the owner, made everything in the villa by hand, so nice knowing how much effort he put in this place and he constantly keeps improving it to make it comfortable and looking nice for everyone.
Rossi, the community manager is amazing, she makes me feel at home with all the care and support I got from her, never felt alone for a second at RedNerd with communal activities, that she creates. Also taking in account every single person schedule in the villa and preferences to make sure that everyone feels included ( if they want to).
I feel like am a different person now after staying at the villa, so grateful for being a part of RedNerd family. 🫶
I stayed at RedNerd for one month. While the space and concept have potential, my experience was significantly impacted by repeated uncomfortable interactions with the community manager, Rossi.
Several moments early in my stay left me feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. At a Friday dinner, Rossi told another guest and me that we owed her money for a beach club visit. When we explained that we had already paid for our own drinks after she and others had left, the situation escalated. Instead of clarifying the issue, she raised her voice and repeatedly said, “I’m just saying,” in a tone that felt accusatory and dismissive. The conversation remained unresolved, and the interaction discouraged me from attending any more group dinners.
At the beach club, I chose not to jump into the pool because the water felt cold. From across the area, Rossi shouted out, “Come on, you’re not representing your country well!” Although possibly intended as a joke, referencing my nationality in that context felt unnecessary and inappropriate, especially in an international environment.
On another occasion, while out with the group, she remarked in front of everyone that “she needed an hour in the morning not to see or be bothered by us because we were annoying.” Comments like these, whether meant lightly or not, felt unprofessional and contributed to an unwelcoming atmosphere.
As a result, I chose to minimize engagement with Rossi, responding when spoken to but keeping distance. I had already shared this feedback with the owner, Marcel, during my stay. However, when I addressed it directly with Rossi before leaving, she reacted as if hearing it for the first time. She responded by saying she wasn’t a bad person—which I never implied. The reality is that after these early interactions, I no longer felt comfortable trying to get to know her. Her reactions to small situations often felt unpredictable, making it difficult to feel safe seeking support if needed.
She later stated that she hadn’t raised her voice and didn’t remember the specific incidents. While I understand that memory and perception can differ, my account reflects how I experienced those moments. Her tone felt elevated, and her remarks, in context, felt inappropriate.
To her credit, Rossi did offer an apology. However, it was paired with remarks such as, “Not everyone has to like you,” which made the apology feel somewhat dismissive. I agree that not everyone will connect personally, but there is a difference between a lack of rapport and being addressed in a disrespectful way. Framing these experiences as cultural misunderstandings or personal differences doesn’t fully acknowledge the importance of mutual respect in a shared living environment.
In a country like Egypt—where persistent street harassment can already be a source of stress, especially for women—a community manager’s behavior has a significant impact. In this case, it added to the discomfort rather than alleviating it. I didn’t leave early only because my travel plans were fixed.
On a more positive note, I had a very positive experience with Alana, who led a retreat during my stay. Though I couldn't join her events due to work, every interaction with her was kind, respectful, and helpful. Her advice on navigating local culture was thoughtful and sensitive, and she contributed to a much more inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. Marcel was responsive to any logistical or maintenance issues. Mariam, the lady who cooked and cleaned, was also a wonderful presence—warm, sweet, and an excellent cook.
This review reflects my personal experience. While the house has potential, I found it difficult to feel at ease. I hope this review helps inform improvements for a more supportive guest environment in the future.
Great place for remote work! The internet is very reliable (even with lots of video calls), and there's a nice vibe among guests. The coworking space is well-equipped, but you can also work from your room. They also organize fun and interesting activities — perfect balance between work and community.
As a PhD researcher working on EU projects (originally from Egypt, now based in Belgium), I’ve stayed at Marcel’s place a couple of times and truly appreciated the experience. The first visit was fantastic—Marcel is a welcoming and attentive host who genuinely cares about his guests. I even made friends with other travelers during that stay, which made it especially memorable.
On my second visit, however, the dynamic was a bit different. There was one guest—a young woman who gave the impression she was managing the place—who told me what I should or shouldn't say in the shared WhatsApp group. It created a confusing and somewhat uncomfortable atmosphere for me. Additionally, I encountered a particularly rude traveler, which unfortunately affected the experience.
That said, I understand that in shared accommodations, the guest mix can vary, and these things happen. My overall impression of the place remains positive, and I encourage Marcel to continue improving the quality and guest experience. Keep up the great work!

I had an amazing experience at Coliving Hurghada! The community is fantastic—everyone is friendly, and it’s a great place to meet new people from all over the world.
There are plenty of fun activities and excursions organized, and I felt incredibly welcome from the moment I arrived. The internet is fast and reliable, the kitchen is fully equipped, and the rooms are super cozy and beautifully furnished. The water filter in the house and the stunning rooftop terrace are definite highlights. The pricing is very fair, and Marcel is always super helpful and friendly, making sure to help whenever he can and make you feel welcome.
Especially if you’re planning to stay in Hurghada for a longer period, this is the perfect place. I truly recommend this place and had awesome 5 weeks! I’ll definitely be back!
Marcel is a super friendly, easy going, very accommodating host! Without his patience with answering my 1000 questions before my trip to Egypt and his great travel advice, I wouldn't have dared to come all by myself to this beautiful ancient country.
Marcel's great personality and Villa/Co-Living Space made my stay at Hurghada a home-away-from-home experience.
The villa is very well designed, with all the details matching (curtain, bedding, towels, decoration, lamps, pool, outside seating space, the gazebo, etc), 3 cats with different personalities and a lovely cook who offers you the most mouth-watering Egyptian dishes 3 times a week. Additionally, there is Wassem, the driver of the villa, who can give you the greatest recommendations about where to eat in Hurghada.
I loved my stay so much that I rebooked again with Marcel and can't wait to go back again to all the lovely people who I made friends with during my two week stay!
