Classifications
Stars are issued to coliving spaces in a similar way as hotels —non subjectively— for actual facilities, not for opinions from reviews nor how 'nice' it is. Operators self-certify that their facilities are as described, meeting expectations and needs. This is free and non-exclusive.
★ good
Some compromise. Workspace or community may be reduced — yet with something besides!
★★ great
Well balanced. Community facilitation, dedicated ergonomic coworking plus call space.
★★★ excellent
With niceties. Multiple focus and casual coworking or lounges, plus transit or pickup — and more!
The Coliving Community marque
Any space meeting very basic miniumus may display the marque, identifying themselves as an active part of the wider ecosystem: (Manager/operator? Learn more…)
- enough capacity to actually have a dynamic community
- some structured community gatherings at the space
- shared lounge, kitchen (or meals available) and laundry
Every community is different, therefore spaces may support theirs with facilities at differing levels, generally focussed around:
- 🎪 community
- hands-off events — the owner, a manager or staff member may arrange, yet is not an active participant
- particpatory organisation — activities are informally coordinated, usually over meals, in a chatgroup, on an events board, …
- structured facilition — somebody is responsible for the community day-to-day as an active member themselves, hosting a regular planning meeting (usually a weekly 'family meal')
- ⌨️ workspace
- non-dedicated — e.g. only a dining table, and relaxed seating such as sofas, but this can cause contention due to overlapping uses
- non-ergonomic — a dedicated workroom but lacking either adjustable chairs or a proper height desk (not a dining table)
- ergonomic — intended for productivity, adjustable seats, proper desk heights and good lighting
Star classifications
Promote suitability and appeal for remote workers and workations — offering facilities that support this well, around other professionally-oriented members.
