I stayed at Kalart for nearly a month. I arrived with just a few expectations - finding space for focused work and ability to connect with others. But my experience became much more than that.
Located at the foot of the Montseny National Park, Kalart is surrounded in early summer by golden cornfields, a nearby cooling mountain stream, and a majestic “turó“, that rises above the entire valley.
For centuries, this mountain has served as a landmark for naval navigation. To me, it came to symbolize the region’s warmth and sense of nourishment, which I felt most strongly during early morning walks in nature or on my way to Santa Maria de Palautordera, along its enchanting tree-lined promenade, toward a strong café con leche.
All this blended harmoniously into my “Kalart experience”.
Beyond the spontaneous activities—local events and markets, as well as my excursions to Barcelona—what made the experience unique was the people I shared the space with.
A central part of community life is the shared lunches, where everyone takes turns cooking for the group. Supporting and being supported may seem like an obvious part of communal living, but at Kalart it felt deeper: never forced or performed but genuinely lived.
The Kalart experience is about consciously cultivating and exploring relationships. Difference is not merely accepted; it is what keeps the communal organism alive and growing. This is reflected in daily life, where scheduled meetings and individual responsibilities are balanced by spontaneous gatherings and activities. Structure and responsibility meet curiosity and play.
This is also visible in the types of residency. The “Long-term” residents provide continuity and orientation, while the “short-term” ones bring a healthy sense of "disruption" by introducing fresh perspectives and new relational dynamics. I sensed a deep complementarity that stimulates the innate vitality within the community.
I am glad that the owners, whose vision has shaped and cultivated this nourishing atmosphere, are now taking it to the next level with "KalartSeeds". They are making their knowledge and experience available to others who feel inspired to bring this unique coliving model elsewhere.
I highly recommend the “Kalart experience” to anyone with a playful mind and a genuine curiosity to explore relationships with others—and, most importantly, with themselves.
I stayed 1 week as a volunteer at Kalart. As others have mentioned in the comments, the location is amazing right next to a national park with hiking trails starting just outside the door.
The community is great as it's a mix of long term residents and new people who stay short term as guests. So, there's a variety of points of view and life experiences.
My experience as volunteer was short due to the organization needing someone with skills I don't have quite developed. The tasks for the first day of volunteer work included: fixing the gas flow of a stove by replacing the gas valves, building a little wooden stool, chopping enough wood to fill a woodshack under a staircase, fixing another woodshack where the wood was kept in the back, moving some other wood to a different location and tuning up the lighting of the cowork place. It took me most week to complete half the tasks and I needed guidance.
So, I recommend for new volunteers to have sharp skills if coming here and be up to speed. As an example of the expectations, I was told I should be able to build a little wooden stool in 15 minutes. It's doable for experienced people I guess.
Something to point out is that cleaning is done by everyone who lives in the house (bathrooms included). There's no external cleaning person or crew for cleaning, as far as I know. So, this can be both an exercise of self-sustainability for some people, or an anoying activity for others.
Overall, it's a great place to experience a rural coliving that hosts an organic community. It's no utopia but it's real and self-managed, with the limitations that it involves.
I stayed for a month.. the environment is beautiful, surrounded by nature with great hikes, and Roger’s way of organizing things was excellent. However, I found the communication from the founders at times a bit emotionally charged and not always grounded, especially when it came to giving feedback or addressing group matters, which surprised me for a place centered around community and conscious living.
At €900 per month, having to clean bathrooms twice a week and cook twice for 10–15 people felt like quite a lot for the price. My room was also next to a busy road - something light sleepers might want to check in advance.
What I missed most was a real feedback culture. Even after living there for a month, no one asked for input or reflections, which felt like a missed opportunity to grow together. I also had to follow up myself about the deposit weeks later.
It also felt a bit unclear whether Kalart wants to be a genuine community or more of a business. As a short-term guest, it was sometimes harder to integrate, as many residents had already formed a tight group and most activities happened spontaneously.
On the positive side, I met some truly like-minded people with whom I’ll definitely stay in touch. Overall, a beautiful place with great potential.
I stayed at Kalart for around 1 month and had an absolutely amazing time! It was such a fun and upbeat group of people. We shared great conversations, music jams, dance sessions and beautiful hikes.
The nature surrounding the house is stunning; lush natural forest and mountains in every direction, and the local village is really charming and lively.
Thanks for everything!
Kalart is a special place that draws mission-aligned, thoughtful people together. Roger & Noemi do an incredible job curating a community that feels purposeful and genuine. The daily shared lunch adds a personal rhythm that turns the space into something more than just a coworking stay for short-termers. I extended my time there, made friends I still see, and left feeling deeply grateful for the experience.
Kalart exceeded every expectation I had! This isn't just a coliving space - it's a place with real purpose and heart. Noemi, Roger, and all the fellow colivers made my stay absolutely unforgettable. From day one, I felt welcomed, at home, and completely safe in such a respectful environment.
The location itself is magical - nestled in a valley that offers breathtaking, lush landscapes at every turn. Whether you're looking for a place to stay or a transformative experience, Kalart delivers both beautifully.
I can't recommend this place enough. It's rare to find somewhere that combines stunning natural beauty with such genuine warmth and community spirit. Thank you for an incredible experience!
I spent a little over two months at Kalart and Kaliu. It was a magical place where the colivers create an environment to feel safe and at home. With every person that arrives and leaves, the place is constantly moving dynamicly, it's like a beautiful painting that is being continued or added to. I found a second home that feels save to come back to, and a place that I found some parts of myself that I thought went missing. I am very greatful for every single precious memory.
You can tell a lot of love and passion went into building this community. The best place to live if you're looking for a welcoming home in the middle of nature with easy access to Barcelona.
